We designed and delivered a state-of-the-art learning facility for Westbourne Grammar School’s Middle Years (Years 5 to 8). The centre is designed for collaboration, innovation and wellbeing.
This three-story facility draws inspiration from the granite forms of the You Yangs visible on the horizon. Its sculpted mass features cracks and crevices that guide visitors toward the entrances. The design also references the work of artist Fred Williams, known for capturing the essence of the western plains. Tower elements serve as visual anchors for both the linear park and the campus, while a porous building edge opens the boulevard and welcomes students and staff inside.
The Middle Years Centre is created as a ‘world within worlds’, offering immersive spaces that spark creativity, imagination, and personal growth. Students are encouraged to explore unique environments, inspiring independent learning and deeper engagement. The building is considered a campus in itself, a hub of highly utilised community activity and interaction, serving as a central gathering space to celebrate and capture Westbourne Grammar School’s spirit. Spaces allow for collaboration and connection amongst year levels and staff, creating a lively sense of togetherness.
