The facility is conceived of as three large tectonic masses formed from a profiled concrete panel, reminiscent of the acoustic insulation of recording studios, whilst the red stain to the concrete alludes to a theatre’s red velvet curtains or the iron-stained geological forms of the nearby Red Bluff.
The masses curve slightly around the adjoining oval, forming crevice-like spaces between them, allowing for multiple access points to the creative space and views out to the campus. Entering the smaller masses transitions the student, teacher or patron to light-filled music and drama spaces.
