The multi-award winning Year Nine Learning Centre at Emmanuel College in Warrnambool is a single, flexible, shed-inspired space designed to navigate a sloping, compact site. It supports a modern teaching approach for this critical stage of schooling.
The building’s folded design blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, with an entrance highlighted by striking truss-like shapes. It creates a unique, self-contained learning environment within the larger school.
The building’s folded, shed-inspired design makes the most of a challenging site, creating sheltered courtyards and housing the Year Nine program in one open space. The ‘Manor Red’ steel cladding pays tribute to Warrnambool’s tradition of red oxide–painted roofs, inspired by landmarks like St Anne’s Convent.
